Cool apps
This is the page where in my very subjective opinion I present how to install and configure what I consider Cool Apps!
MMS (aka SwirlyMMS)
So the guys at SwirlySpace finally released a full fledged version (… or sort of) of the first iPhone MMS application!!!
With version 0.3X the incoming MMS is finally available
. The current version is only a MMS “Manager”. That means it can send an image from your Camera Roll via MMS and it can also fetch a MMS that you have received from the network. But you still need the “Camera” application to take pictures and a viewer application to view the images…
But the important thing is: it works and, with a bit of handling, you can send and receive MMS on your iPhone. And that’s cool!
So, let’s start with the install and configuration:
- Go to Installer on your iPhone and (in Network) install SwirlyMMS 0.3X (you need to have Community Sources installed).
- Once it is installed you need to install as well an image viewer and a file browser, which is not built into SwirlyMMS: so go to Installer again and install (in the “Productivity” category) “MobileFinder” and “MobilePreview”.
- … Restart our iPhone
- Go to the “MobileFinder” application (called “Finder” on your iPhone). Open it, tap on “Settings”and make sure that the “Start in last location” is enabled. Now, tap on “Finder” and then on the little “~” logo on the right. You will see 2 folders: “Library” and “Media”. Open “Media” and in there “MMS Files”. It’s in this folder that the MMS images will land
And as you have the option “Start in last location” enabled, each time you will open “Finder”, you will end up at the right place!
- Now, quit the application by pressing the home button.
- Open SwirlyMMS and go to Settings. Enter the settings for Swisscom, Sunrise or Orange (see at the end of the post).
- That’s it. Try to send an MMS and ask somebody to send you one. Once you’ve received one (that means you have fetched it in SwirlyMMS), go to Finder and you will see the image. Tap on it and it will open with MobilePreview!

I have tested it with Orange and Sunrise on 1.1.4. Works great. Please report your tests!!

Well, not sure about that:
You will see 2 folders: “Library” and “Media”. Open “Media” and in there “MMS Files”.
I see “Media”, however, there is no folder inside called “MM Files” – shall I create it?
Excellent webpage btw.
Oops Cristian, I’m sorry… It creates itself after you have received your first MMS…
So ask a friend to end you one and you’ll be able to see it!
Cheers!
