Number instead of name

Each time you receive a call, the iPhone will check against the address book to see if the incoming number matches any of your contacts. If it does, it displays the name instead of the incoming number.

On the iPhone, this does not work, because it checks the entire number instead of the last X digits. As you can enter a number in various ways in your address book (+41791234567, 0791234567, 0041 79 123 45 67, …), it will often mismatch and display the number instead of the contact name.

For the 1.1.2 iPhone, it is very easy:

- Go to “Settings” > “General” > “International”

- In “Region Format”, choose the one that fits your region. Note: for the French part of Switzerland, go to “French” and select “Switzerland”. For the German part, it’s the same principle.

- Your incoming calls will now match your address book!

For the 1.1.1 iPhone, it is easy… but a bit less ;-)

Our friends from the DevTeam have recoded the files and our other friend from unlock.no has put a simple installer in its repository. This makes it very easy for you to fix the issue:

- On your iPhone, go to Installer application (yes, you have it…)

- On the bottom right, go to “Sources”

- Tap “Edit” (top right) and then “Add” (top left)

- In the window type “http://i.unlock.no” and tap “OK”

- It will refresh the sources, wait for a few seconds

- Tap “Done” (top right) and “Install” (bottom, second from the left)

- Scroll down to the category “Unlocking Tools”, tap on it and select “Phone # to name fix”

- Tap “Install” (top right), confirm… and here we go!

I’have a iphone 1.1.3, unlocked with the Ziphone tool. I still have “numbers instead of names” problem. Can you help???
And also no swiss french keyboard, and no localisation on the map…..

Hi Léo… and jwhale and Tamia!
There are several problems that you mention: for the “name instead of numbers”, i need to upgrade mine (pfff… still in 1.1.1, lazy boy) to 1.1.3. I will find a way. Keep you posted
For the other issues:
- localization on the map: I bet that you have an older baseband than the one that you normally find in 1.1.3: do you have by any chance anything else than 04.03.13_G? If it’s the case, it is normal that localization does not work, because this feature is only included in the latest version of the baseband… If you want help for correcting it, I would need to know what was the original version of you iPhone…
- Swiss french keyboard: again, need to upgrade to find out. Stay tuned!!

-Positioning: 2 choices: downgrade your Bootloader to 3.9 with Ziphone software ( http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=678 ). It work really fine. If you don’t want to downgrade your bootloader just install Navzon 2 via the installer.

- French keyboard: euhhh…

A few thoughts about what you are saying in the comment above:

- The fix from iclarified that you mention for names instead of numbers works… But Switzerland is included by default since 1.1.2. So in my opinion, there is no need to add this. On the iPhone, you simply need to go to Settings/General/International/Region Format/French (or German) / Switzerland .. and it works! The trick is that Switzerland is hidden behind French or German!

- Localization: The fact of downgrading the bootloader to 3.9 makes it possible to hack and use the original baseband of 1.1.3 -> the 04.03.13_G which supports positioning. If you do not downgrade and keep using the original bootloader, you can only use baseband 04.02.13_G… which does not support positioning and you need to use Navizon… I think this is the reason why it works in your case ;-)

- Keyboard: OK, I promise, tomorrow I upgrade my iPhone and try to find a way ;-)

You should first upgrade your Iphone: you’ll then see that Switzerland format is not hidden at all, but that even with the correct settings you will have numbers instead of names. I would love to have an other option than using the iclarified patch but I think it’s the only one at the moment… :(

OK, Léo… I upgraded my phone a few minutes ago, like you suggested I should do! (actually I did a full restore to 1.1.3 and unlocked it with ziphone). Works well and you are right for the region settings. It has no effect on displaying the names instead of numbers… It is back to the way it was on 1.1.1… You have to patch the AppSupport file to add the country. Exactly what the fix you said does! Thanks!

For the localization, it works, if you have baseband 04.03.13_G, what is my case because I did a full restore to 1.1.3.

Keyboard… hum…well bloody Swiss French is not available…

I think we’ll just have to wait two more weeks, that swisscom starts to sell it here, and we’ll suddendl^y find a new keyboard…

Does anyone heard about a possible umts iphone coming soon?
